The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
