They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say, "I will rehearse to you something of his story." 83 Surely We established him in the land and granted him means of access to every thing. 84 So he followed a course. 85 [And he marched westwards] till, when he came to the setting of the sun, it appeared to him that it was setting in a dark, turbid sea; and nearby he found a people [given to every kind of wrongdoing]. We said: "O thou Two-Horned One! Thou mayest either cause [them] to suffer or treat them with kindness!" 86 He said, "We shall certainly punish him who does wrong; then he shall be brought back to his Lord who will punish him with a grievous punishment, 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Thereafter he followed a way. 89 To the extent that when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for which We had not kept any shelter from it. 90 Thus. And We had encompassed [all] that he had in knowledge. 91 He then followed (another) road 92 after this to the middle of two mountains where he found a people who could hardly understand a single word. 93 'ThulKarnain' they said, 'Look, Gog and Magog are corrupting the earth. Build for us a barrier between us and them, and we will pay you a tribute' 94 He said: That wherein my Lord hath established me is better (than your tribute). Do but help me with strength (of men), I will set between you and them a bank. 95 "Bring me blocks of iron." At length, when he had filled up the space between the two steep mountain-sides, He said, "Blow (with your bellows)" Then, when he had made it (red) as fire, he said: "Bring me, that I may pour over it, molten lead." 96 Therefore Yajuj and Majuj were neither able to surmount it, nor could they pierce it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true. 98 ۞ And on that day We will leave a part of them in conflict with another part, and the trumpet will be blown, so We will gather them all together; 99 On that Day We shall present Gehenna (Hell) to the unbelievers, 100 Unto those whose eyes had been under a covering from My remembrance, nor had they been able to hear. 101
