The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
