Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
