Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
