He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
