Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
