And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 Upon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners - 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 Its news was also mentioned in the ancient Books. 196 Is it not a token for them that the doctors of the Children of Israel know it? 197 Had We revealed it to any one of the non-Arabs, 198 So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe therein until they behold the torment afflictive. 201 And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not. 202 Then they will say: "Shall we be respited?" 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 Therefore observe, that if We give them some comforts for some years, – 205 Yet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised! 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 No evil ones have brought down this (Revelation): 210 They are not worthy of it, nor have they power. 211 Indeed they are debarred from even hearing it. 212 So call on no other god but God, lest you are condemned to torment; 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee. 215 Then if they disobey you, say: "I am innocent of what you do." 216 And rely upon (Allah) the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up 218 and [sees] thy behaviour among those who prostrate themselves [before Him]: 219 He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person. 222 Who listens to you (for spreading rumours); but most of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 Observest thou not, that they wander about every vale. 225 And how they say that which they do not? 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
