Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
