(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
