The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
