The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
