The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
