He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
