۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
