He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
