To the Thamud We sent their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship God; you have no other god but Him. A veritable proof has come to you from your Lord: this is God's she-camel, a sign for you, so let her feed in God's land and do not harm her in any way, or you will be overwhelmed by a painful punishment. 73 And remember what time He made you successors after 'Ad and inherited you in earth; ye take for yourselves palaces in the plains whereof and ye hew out the mountains as houses. Remember ye wherefore the benefits of Allah and commit not evil on the earth as corrupters. 74 The leaders of those who were arrogant among his people said to those who were counted weak - to such of them as believed: "Know you that Salih (Saleh) is one sent from his Lord." They said: "We indeed believe in that with which he has been sent." 75 Those who were arrogant answered: "We do not believe in what you believe." 76 Then they hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord, and said: "Bring, O Saleh, on us the affliction you promise, if you are one of the sent ones." 77 Thereupon an earthquake overtook them: and then they lay lifeless, in their very homes, on the ground. 78 And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors." 79 And Lot, who said to his nation: 'Do you commit such indecency (sodomy) in a way that no one has preceded you in the worlds? 80 You lust after men rather than women! You transgress all bounds!" 81 Their only answer was: 'Banish them from your town. They are a people who pretend to be pure.' 82 Then We saved him and his family, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind (in the torment). 83 We rained down on them a shower [of brimstone]. Then see what was the end of the evil-doers. 84
