Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (This is) a chapter which We have revealed and made obligatory and in which We have revealed clear communications that you may be mindful. 1 Flog the fornicatress and the fornicator with a hundred lashes each. Let there be no reluctance in enforcing the laws of God, if you have faith in God and the Day of Judgment. Let it take place in the presence of a group of believers. 2 The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist, and that has been made unlawful to the believers. 3 Those who defame chaste women and do not bring four witnesses should be punished with eighty lashes, and their testimony should not be accepted afterwards, for they are profligates, 4 Except those who repent after this and reform; and God is surely forgiving and kind. 5 As for those who accuse their wives but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies, (swearing) by Allah that he is of those who speak the truth; 6 They should say on the fifth time, "Let God's curse be upon me if I am a liar". 7 But the punishment will be averted from her if she swears four times that he is of the liars, 8 On the fifth time she should say, "Let the curse of God be upon me if what he says is true." 9 (This would not have been possible) if the grace and benevolence of God were not upon you; but God is compassionate and wise. 10
