He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
