The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and banana trees, 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 We have made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
