Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 "My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity." 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 "Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 "Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And all the armies of Satan. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
