He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
