AND THEY will ask thee about the Two-Horned One. Say: "I will convey unto you something by which he ought to be remembered." 83 We granted him power in the land and endowed him with all kinds of resources. 84 He therefore pursued a purpose. 85 to the West where he found the sun setting into a warm source (spring) of water and a people living near by. We asked him, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, you may punish them or treat them with kindness?" 86 He said, "As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment. 87 As for those who believe and do good, they will receive virtuous rewards and We will tell them to do only what they can. 88 He again pursued a purpose. 89 until he came to the rising-place of the sun, where he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 So (it was)! And We knew all about him (Dhul-Qarnain). 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 Until, when he reached between two mountains, he found, before (near) them (those two mountains), a people who scarcely understood a word. 93 They said: "O Zul-qarnain! the Gog and Magog (People) do great mischief on earth: shall we then render thee tribute in order that thou mightest erect a barrier between us and them? 94 He said: "(The power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than tribute): Help me therefore with strength (and labour): I will erect a strong barrier between you and them: 95 Bring me ingots of iron." Then after he had filled up the space between the two mountain-sides, he said: "(Light a fire) and ply bellows." When he had made it (red like) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour on it." 96 Thus were they made powerless to scale it or to dig through it. 97 Dhu al-Qarnayn said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: but when the time of my Lord's promise shall come, He will level the rampart with the ground. My Lord's promise always comes true." 98 ۞ And on that day we shall let some of them surge against others, and the Trumpet will be blown. Then We shall gather them together in one gathering. 99 And on that Day We shall present Hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 whose eyes were blinded to My remembrance and they were not able to hear. 101
