The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your clothing purify 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
