Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
