'Aad denied the messengers 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
