Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
