The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 then came down close 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
