Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
Almighty Allah's Truth.
