The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And the swollen sea, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
