The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
