Alshu'araa' 2 of 11
HENCE, [remember how it was] when thy Sustainer summoned Moses: "Go unto those evil doing people. 10 The folk of Pharaoh. Will they not ward off (evil)? 11 He said: "My Lord! I fear that they will brand me a liar. 12 "And my breast straitens, and my tongue expresses not well. So send for Harun (Aaron) (to come along with me). 13 And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they will kill me. 14 He said, “Not like this (any more); both of you go with Our signs, We are with you, All Hearing.” 15 "And when you both come to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), say: 'We are the Messengers of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists), 16 [Commanded to say], "Send with us the Children of Israel."'" 17 Fir'awn said: brought we not thee up amongst us as a child? And thou tarriedst amongst us for many years of thy life? 18 And yet thou didst commit that [heinous] deed of thine, and [hast thus shown that] thou art one of the ingrate!" 19 [Moses] said, "I did it, then, while I was of those astray. 20 and I fled from you because I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me one of the messengers. 21 Now this is the favour that you tauntingly remind me of: that you enslaved the Children of Israel!" 22 Pharaoh said, "What is this: Lord of the Universe?" 23 He said, 'The Lord of the heavens and earth, and what between them is, if you have faith.' 24 (The Pharaoh) said to those around him: "Do you hear?" 25 Musa (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers!" 26 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a madman!" 27 He said: The Lord of the east and the west and what is between them, if you understand. 28 Said he, 'If thou takest a god other than me, I shall surely make thee one of the imprisoned.' 29 and Moses asked, "Even if I show you a clear sign?" 30 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Bring it forth then, if you are of the truthful!" 31 He cast down his staff and thereupon it was a clear serpent. 32 And he drew out his hand, and it appeared [shining] white to the beholders. 33
