Mary (Maryam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf- Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. 15
