The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
