The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
