The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
