He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
