The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the heavens and al-tariq. 1 And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?- 2 (It is) the star of piercing brightness; 3 Over every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man consider of what he is created: 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Verily, (Allah) is Able to bring him back (to life)! 8 upon the day when the secrets are tried, 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 this is indeed a Decisive Word, 13 it is no merriment. 14 As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile. 17
