Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
