The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 How will you comprehend what the night star is? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 For every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man see from what he is created! 5 He was created from spurting fluid, 6 That issueth from between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 Most surely He is able to return him (to life). 8 On the Day when secrets are disclosed, 9 when he will be helpless, with no supporter. 10 By the Firmament which returns (in its round), 11 by earth splitting with verdure, 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 it is not a jest. 14 Indeed the disbelievers carry out their evil schemes. 15 But I too am devising a plan. 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
