(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
