Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
