Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
