The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
