The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or orders piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
