The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
