Yet Aaron had aforetime said to them, 'My people, you have been tempted by this thing, no more; surety your Lord is the All-merciful; therefore follow me, and obey my commandment!' 90 They said, "We will never cease being devoted to the calf until Moses returns to us." 91 [Moses] said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray, 92 From coming after me? Did you not disobey my command?" (And Moses pulled him by the hair). 93 He said: O son of my mother! Clutch not my beard nor my head! I feared lest thou shouldst say: Thou hast caused division among the Children of Israel, and hast not waited for my word. 94 Said Moosa, “And what is your explanation, O Samri?” 95 (Samiri) said: "I saw what they saw not, so I took a handful (of dust) from the hoof print of the messenger [Jibrael's (Gabriel) horse] and threw it [into the fire in which were put the ornaments of the Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, or into the calf]. Thus my inner-self suggested to me." 96 (Moses) said: "Get thee gone! but thy (punishment) in this life will be that thou wilt say, 'touch me not'; and moreover (for a future penalty) thou hast a promise that will not fail: Now look at thy god, of whom thou hast become a devoted worshipper: We will certainly (melt) it in a blazing fire and scatter it broadcast in the sea!" 97 Your God is only the One God; there is no god, but He alone who in His knowledge embraces everything.' 98 THUS DO WE relate unto thee some of the stories of what happened in the past; and [thus] have We vouchsafed unto thee, out of Our grace, a reminder. 99 Whoever turns away from it will bear a heavy burden on the Day of Judgement, 100 and live in it for ever; how evil will that burden be for them on the Day of Resurrection. 101 The Day whereon the trumpet will be blown into, and We shall gather the culprits on that Day blear-eyed, 102 Mutterin among themselves: ye tarried not save ten days. 103 We know best what they will say. The most perceptive of them will say, "You stayed only one day." 104
