The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
