A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
