The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
